How do you celebrate your valentine days with your darling? Me and my wife have a special valentine celebration in Monkey Beach. We have a wonderful fishing picnic trip in Monkey Beach. This is my first time to experience sea fishing & if you follow my blog, you will find that this is the first time my posting has so many pictures.
Monkey Beach
Monkey Beach is located in Penang National Park. It is very famous among tourist for the white & blue sea. To reach Monkey Beach, we have to register yourselves at Register Office at Teluk Bahang. Monkey Beach is located about 3km from register office. If you choose to walk to Monkey Beach, it takes about 60minutes or you can straight go inside by renting fishing boat.

My wife & I start our journey by check in Register Office at 9.20am. After long hiking & picture photographing along the way, we reach Monkey Beach by 10.50am & have some rest.

Before start fishing, we first fill our stomach with my per-ready curry chicken lunch box. For more detail on the recipe of curry chicken lunch box , pls click on the hyperlink. I cook the curry chicken one night before & cook the rice on that morning. That's really yummy & delicious. We finish our lunch right beside the blue sea, accompany with slow wind & romantic wave rhythm.

Start Fishing at Monkey Beach
Before I decide to fish in Monkey Beach, I've made survey that fish that can be found here are ikan kerapu (石斑鱼grouper), ikan pari (魔鬼鱼stringgray), todak & others. So, I've ready fresh prawn as the bait. Using my lovely ryobi fishing rod, I throw the bait as far as I can into the sea.
Right just I put down my fishing rod, there is a small respond showing at my fishing rod. Since lack of experience, I dont realise that and just let it go. After 5 minutes, I keep the line & found that my bait already finish. That excited me, proof that my thniking is correct that there is fish in this place. I put on another bait & throw into same place. Again after 5 minutes, my bait finish & that continue for several time.
Finally start to catch fish
I dont give up & keep throwing into deep blue sea. This time, I simply give it a spike when there is small respind on fishing rod. Ha, luckily, a fish hook on. I quickly keep the line & land the fish within 2 minutes. It is a puffer fish河豚! I never thought that there is puffer fish here.

Right after the first fish, I continue to get another 2 ikan temengung (成鱼sea catfish). This common catfish (no-value fish) can found anywhere in Malaysia including fresh water. My target fish of ikan kerapu & ikan pari still no respond.

Catfish again?
No choice, I have to put more effort. I try to throw into another place near to rocks. Unluckily, that cost me one hook where my hook get stuck to the rock. Again, I throw to another place to my left side. Just 2 minutes, I can feel a sudden hit to my bait. Without any delay, I hit back. Another puffer fish is landed. After 3 minutes, another unlucky fellow is landed. This biggest catch of the day is hooked at the eye and approximately weighed 300g. After this unlucky fellow, I miss 3~4 golden opportunities. My bait is stolen by unknown target.

Change place
After about 2 hours fishing in Monkey Beach, I decide to change place. We walk along the hiking track backward to Register Office to search for suitable spot. Finally, we stop again in a rock groups near to USM research center. Again, using prawn as bait, i throw it into the deep blue sea & wait for the bite.

The fish is not active as Monkey Beach. I have to wait for about 10minutes only get first bite by the fish. Again another cat fish is landed & release back to the sea. The following 5 minutes, I get no respond at all by the fish so I decide to end the fish trip. All in all, this fishing trip give me a great experience since this is my first sea fishing trip especially during Valentine's Day.

whenever you're paying a visit to this beautiful monkey beach in penang, don't forget to take a short hike to the muka head lighthouse as well! it's a sweet way to connect with nature! Oh, they also have one of the most beautiful starbucks in whole of malaysia - don't forget to visit the starbucks in batu ferringhi!
